She was born on July 24, 1919, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Grayce Myrtle Weaver Evans and John Louis Theodore Evans. She had been a resident of Ocean Springs, MS., since 1996 and lived in Gulfport, MS. from 1957 to 1959. Loys traveled around the world as an army officer's wife, having lived overseas in Iwo Jima, Guam, Alaska and Germany. In the USA she lived in Kansas, Colorado, California, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Alabama, New Mexico and Mississippi. Loys enjoyed traveling to many countries in Europe, and she and her husband took a special vacation trip to Australia.
Loys Berger was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, was a Past President and life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a member of La Boutique des Huit Chapeaux et Quarante Femmes and was in the Reserve Officers Association Ladies Clubs. Loys attended local conventions, as well as National Conventions. She especially enjoyed her volunteer work with her club members planning many activities and holiday parties for the veterans living at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.
Her favorite things to watch on television were the Lawrence Welk Show, the Kentucky Derby and baseball games, especially the World Series. Another one of her pleasures was keeping up correspondence with her family and friends. The memories of the Ottawa High School reunions that she attended always remained with her. Loys liked dancing, playing the piano, card parties and most of all attending church events. She attended Woodhaven Baptist Church in Ocean Springs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, Capt. Merton M. Berger (Retired U.S. Army).
Survivors include her daughter, Anne Carolyn and husband, William E. Stietenroth of Biloxi; her only son, Johnny Mervyn Berger and his wife Sally Berger of Hendersonville, NC; her daughter Bonnie Coleen Berger of Grand View, MO; her granddaughter, Davona Mitchell and husband, Ron Mitchell and great-granddaughters, Caroline Mitchell and Ashley Mitchell, all of Biloxi.
Visitation was on Thursday, August 12, 2010, from 10 am until 11 am, with an 11 am church service, all at St. John's Episcopal Church on Porter and Rayburn Streets, Ocean Springs. Burial followed in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to Woodhaven Baptist Church, Government Street, Ocean Springs, MS. 39564 or to St. John's Episcopal Church, 705 Rayburn Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS. 39564.

Neil Henry McAllister III born April 8, 1953 in Galveston, Texas died on Tuesday August 10th, 2010 in Houston, Texas. Neil was raised in Ocean Springs, Mississippi and was a long-time resident of Houston, Texas. He was a graduate of Ocean Springs High School and an alumnus of the University of Southern Mississippi. He worked in the Commercial Construction Industry in the Houston Area.
The son of the late Neil Henry McAllister, Jr., he is survived by his former wife and best friend, Tanya Noble McAllister, Friendswood, Texas; two children, Neil Henry McAllister IV, Friendswood, Texas and Lois Nicole McAllister, Biloxi, Mississippi; a grandchild, Elexa Sharee McAllister, his mother, Shirley Rose McAllister, Metairie, Louisiana; four siblings, a brother, John Joseph McAllister, Metairie, Louisiana; three sisters, Cheryl Saunders Mott, Metairie, Louisiana; Pam McAllister, Denver, Colorado; and Tricia Payne, The Woodlands, Texas; three nephews and nieces, Thomas Saunders, New York, New York; , Patrick Payne and Rachel Payne, The Woodlands, Texas; and a great-niece and great-nephew Kate and Liam Saunders, New York, New York .
Neil will be missed by his family and numerous dear friends. A private memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Galveston Island, Texas and a marker will be placed at the Biloxi Memorial Cemetery in Biloxi, MS.
Mark Anderson Rhodes, age 53, passed away at home on August 12th, 2010. He was born in Panama City, FL on August 28th, 1956 to Fred and Gloria Rhodes. They lived in Butler, AL for two years and then the family moved to Augusta, GA. In 1965, the family moved to Baker, LA. Throughout his childhood, Mark participated in baseball, football and basketball. He graduated from Baker High School in 1974 with a football scholarship to Northwestern State University. After college, he moved to Orlando, FL where he trained and worked for Picadilly. He then moved back to Baker, LA and helped his father in the seafood and restaurant business, Rhodes Seafood. In 1990, he moved to Ocean Springs, MS and began working for US Food Service. In Ocean Springs, he met Kelly Thaxton and married on October 7th, 1995. They have three children, Matthew, Chase and Hannah. Mark worked for US Foods until his death winning many awards including Salesman of the Year. As Mark’s children grew, he participated in their lives and sports. He coached numerous sports teams, cheering on not only his own children but an entire community of children. His latest dream of a lifetime was met when he coached his son’s Little League team to the state championship this year. Mark enjoyed all sports be adored his New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers. Mark was a big man but no bigger than his heart. Everyone he met was a potential friend not only in his everyday life, but field of business. If Mark gave his word to a friend, family member or business associate, he meant it. He would do whatever it took to make that promise true. Mark loved his parents, sister and brother. But most of all, he loved his wife, Kelly and three children. They were his life. There was not anything he would not do for his family and friends. He was a hands on Daddy and participated in his children’s lives every moment. He was well respected in the community and loved by all. We will all miss him dearly.
Mark is preceded in death by his Mother, Gloria Anderson Rhodes; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Mary Rhodes; maternal grandparents, Rual and Allie Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly Thaxton Rhodes; children, Matthew (13), Chase (11) and Hannah (11) Rhodes; father, Fred L. Rhodes and wife, Fern; sister, Fredda Rhodes Lamonte; brother, Jay John Rhodes and sister-in-law, Rachel Rhodes; nephews, Ryan Lamonte and Austin Lamonte; neices, Brooke Rhodes and Alana Rhodes.
A visitation was on Monday, August, 16, 2010 from 5:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home.
Funeral services were on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the East Campus of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Friends visited from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment was in Crestlawn Memorial Park, Ocean Springs.
