OCEAN SPRINGS – The former Ocean Springs police department will undergo a $250,000 renovation, according to reports.

Police Chief Lionel Cothern said the remodeled facility would serve as a state-of-the-art downtown police sub-station.

The old station, located behind City Hall, closed in February when the new police department on U.S. Highway 90 was opened.

According to reports, the renovation includes funding for asbestos removal.

The department moved into the new 18,000-square-foot police station earlier this year at the city’s public safety complex, which includes an 8,500-square-foot firehouse and emergency operations center and a 12,000-square-foot courtroom.
